Now we are third day on Langkawi. Finally, we had the chance to get to know the beauties of this island. After landing on 28th, we took a taxi ride to our hotel (Bella Vista), which is apparently a copy of Disney Castle. We had to wait for our room as it wasn't cleaned yet and in the end it was a twin room with a very little sea view. Fortunately, the staff here is very nice and as the hotel is almost full they have upgraded our room to delux, but we lost the sea view completely. Have to say that I was glad as now we have similar luxury as 4* in England.
In the afternoon we decided to explore the neighbourhood city called Kuah (Langkawi’s capital). From our side, Kuah seem like really nice town, but 20 years ago. Since then nobody seems to invest in repairs and everything looks raffish. I have tripped at least four times now and almost fell into two holes during my stay as pavements (where they exist, as they are not used to walking people…no pavement, no crossings etc.) are uneven and full of broken cobbles. In the end we have reached the town centre and had a lovely dinner. Some sort of fish (we still have to find what it was) with rice. Lukas enjoyed the food very much even he opposed to seafood initially. But what we did not realised that a whole fish will cost 45RM and we had only 87RM with us. So embarrassing, but the owner was so great. He gave us a ride to the hotel, took less money than we supposed to pay and gave us a ride to the opposite side of a town to Eagle Square while talking about the town and best places to visit. A great example of local friendliness. Unfortunately we did not manage to see much from the famous eagle as it was very dark and the Eagle is in repair now, but we have seen the better and more renovated side of the city with lovely small lizards all around public toilets. In the end we have realised that we will need to rent the car asap as you cannot move around the island without it.
So we have made some calls on Saturday and rented better car (Nissan) for RM90 for first day and for the rest we will have Proton Saga for only RM50 (£10)! Bargain! And we were thrown into wild Lankawi's traffic. It is almost anarchy, but they are all relaxed and friendly that nobody cares if you are not using indicators or driving on the red light :-) But with the car we discovered a completely different Langkawi. Beautiful beaches and lots of trees. You can see pics with Lukas' posts (I still have to learn how to upload them into the blog :-) ). We have seen our first wild monkeys and were caught by a proper asian rainfall. And for a dinner we managed to find a great restaurant (well, if you can call it that...simply they make food :-) ). We did not know what we are ordering as the waitress did know almost no English, but it was delicious an we pay only RM12.5 (£2.50) for both! In comparison with our Friday's dinner for RM102 it was great improvement.
Well, and today we switched the cars and about it a bit later...
