Another post from Langkawi

The days go so fast. It is difficult to catch up. On Sunday we went to a night market. It was great, we tried three dishes and even Malaysian version of spring rolls. Many sellers did not give option to eat in the market and pack it in plastic bags to take away. This brings me into one thing that I have noticed during our stay in Langkawi. Local p
eople eat a lot outside-food stores does not offer enough fresh produce and the amount of small restaurants would not be able to survive by serving only tourists and occasional visits. That is why you can find really good prices of food. Today we have eaten again only for £4 (two meals and two drinks) and because they are mainly Muslims, they really pay attention to their drinks (even the cheapest version of juice looks like a cocktail).

And our new car. I love it! Saga Proton is a little
bit better verion of Skoda 130. When you shift
the gear you really feel the car and the noise is great. It goes well with the whole Langkawi experience. Nobody is rushing anywhere, speed 30-50 miles/hr (it is voluntary speed, many people does not even know what is the max speed, certainly our driver did not :-) ); if people would drive like in Europe it would be quite dangerous. There are many motorcyclists on the road with their slow scooters and many does not have helmets, especially children.

Today we visited Snake Sanctuary. I was quite excited about it as I saw a few pictures. The reality was like many things in Langkawi. Some time ago it had to look great. Today it was deserted. At one point we were the only visitors in the whole centre. Some of the animals on display were amazing, but I really felt for them. Those in European Zoos are so lucky. In here many of them were lying just in a terrarium, no natural surroundings at all.

Talking about animals, monkeys in here are lovely. They are stealing what they can and once we felt quite intimidated when they got so close that I had to close my window and what until they left :-) They are sitting next to roads like rabbits in Scotland, especially in the mountain areas.
